That meant I had time to take exactly two bites before I had to rush off to the show. I asked my apologetic waitress if I could have the food wrapped up to take to my room or have it delivered, but she told me that wasn't possible. Not only did I leave hungry and disappointed, but I wasted food I would have otherwise consumed. Perhaps these could be chalked up to the fact that it was an inaugural cruise where workers were still acclimating to the flow and timing of things like food prep and delivery.

No matter which you choose, your room will come with a proper bar, turntable and curated Virgin records, swanky bathrooms with marble details plus king beds and time-of-day coordinated mood lighting. Balconies in Resilient Lady suites are larger than other rooms, and many have panoramic views of the ship's wake. Resilient Lady's rooms -- almost all of them -- prioritize ocean views, but the cabins themselves are easy on the eyes as well. Expect sharp neutrals with pops of the line's signature scarlet hue in soft furnishings and balcony hammocks (another line signature). Beds are incredibly comfortable; there are no seams of which to speak when twin mattresses are combined. Note that if you're traveling with a friend and want separate beds, your twin beds will be arranged in an "L" fashion.

If too many people like me start booking Scarlet Lady, the line's chances of drawing twentysomethings and thirtysomethings may be lost forever. Despite some underwhelming aspects here and there, such as some design choices we didn't love and a very crowded pool area, we had a great time. The bathroom was quite small, to the point where it bordered on being a claustrophobic experience.

According to the cruise line, Pink Agave's menu was inspired by Mexico. On the opposite side of Sailor Services from Razzle Dazzle, Pink Agave is the fancier alternative to the Let's Taco Bout It outlet in The Galley. The so-called "elevated Mexican" dishes come in small, medium and large plates, and you can mix and match them and share with your tablemates. If you're feeling adventurous, order the mezcal cocktail topped with crunchy crickets. You'll want to make your dinner reservations as soon as you get on board. One thing that surprised me was the ship requests you also make reservations for breakfast, brunch or lunch at sit-down restaurants, such as The Wake and Razzle Dazzle.
Still, we sought to sample as much as possible during our four-night sailing. Beyond the evening entertainment, the vibe was similar to what you'd find in Las Vegas. The pools, restaurants, spa, casino and exercise classes all featured plenty of skimpy outfits and adult-oriented jokes and innuendos, though you could avoid anything that was too outside your comfort zone. However, those adult activities were easy to spot on the agenda, so you could easily skip them if you wanted a more tame cruise experience.

And just to sexy it up a little more, Schiller (who some may know from her sex-focused podcast, also called Never Sleep Alone) stripped down to her bustier and stockings at the end of the show. Other than the cabin cleanings, the crew was more noticeable, too. We saw crew members on the basketball courts, eating in The Galley and just generally out and about around the ship even when they didn't appear to be on the clock, which helped create a more relaxed atmosphere. In addition to featuring more than 20 grab-and-go spots and traditional sit-down eateries, there's the large Galley venue with various vendors arranged in a way similar to what you'd find in a food court or buffet. Sharing a room with a friend is always a tricky proposition, but even more so in the tight quarters of a cruise ship. My friend and I shared a 225-square-foot Sea Terrace suite and from the photos, it looked like we’d have some trouble squeezing in clothes for two. But we were pleasantly surprised upon arrival, as the suite was filled with plenty of space to accommodate all of our clothes and toiletries. Be sure to bring something red for Scarlet Night — a combination atrium spectacle, pool party and nightclub rave that happens once per sailing. Other themed nights include a pajama party and an '80s bash, so pack accordingly.

In fact, one of Virgin Voyages' two vessels currently in operation, the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady, does nothing but short sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean out of Miami. We tried a similar excursion in Barbados but were disappointed when the catamaran took us in view of the ship, deposited us on a crowded beach, and then sailed us back after a quick swim, claiming the waves were too rough.

For my stay, I was booked in the Sea Terrace cabin, which is their standard balcony cabin. Although the bathroom was a little small, I appreciated the extra space in the stylish room. The cabin is high-tech and low-touch with a tablet that centralizes all the controls in the room including the lights, AC, the TV and the window shades.

The only storage is in the closet area, and as in a micro hotel, your clothes won't exactly be hanging behind closed doors. One tall cabinet with a door houses four not-that-deep drawers and shelves, many of which house the safe, life jackets and extra towels. But your clothes will hang from a rack behind a curtain that you likely won't bother to close. In one corner is a luggage stand with two shelves, each with a wicker basket.
I loved that every night I ate someplace different – one night filet mignon at the classy, upscale The Wake, the next experimental dishes at Test Kitchen or communal Korean BBQ at Gunbae. The drag show was a hoot, and the DanceShowPartyThing was different than any cruise ship show I've ever seen and a lighthearted fun time. You'll find surprisingly excellent Roman-style pizzas at the casual Pizza Place. If you're in need of an afternoon snack, the mezze and small hot dishes at casual-cool The Dock are easily some of the best bites onboard. The expansion of Virgin Voyages sailings in the Bahamas and Caribbean this year meant the line could send more ships back and forth between Europe and North America than in the past.
